Pennsylvania State Police made a record number of drunken driving / DUI arrests last year, the agency announced this week. Troopers made 16,900 DUI arrests statewide in 2009, a 4 percent increase from 2008, Commissioner Frank Pawlowski said. The number of alcohol-related fatalities troopers investigated also decreased from 161 to 141 last year. In York County, law enforcement agencies arrested 2,471 drunken drivers in 2009. In 2008, officers made 2,488 arrests in the county.

York, May 10TH, Three people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence - DUI, Friday night at a DUI checkpoint in Shrewsbury, York county, PA. Police also made one underage drinking arrest and one drug arrest. They also picked up one person for a probation violation and nabbed two people on outstanding arrest warrants. Police also issued 13 citations for traffic violations and issued 19 warnings. Southern Regional, Southwestern Regional, York Area Regional, state police, York County Probation and the York County Sheriff's Department participated in the checkpoint.

CHAMBERSBURG, Thursday, April 29 - A Chambersburg woman arrested for DUI faces additional charges of endangering the welfare of a child Jessica Lynn Velez, 20, was arrested April 11 around 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 81 near Marion for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, said three children - all under the age of 8 - were not in child safety seats and one was not in a seatbelt. She is charged with DUI, three counts of reckless endangerment, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and eight summary traffic violations.

York Pa. DUI check point nets many DUI arrests in April, 2010. The York DUI checkpoint, which ran from Friday night into Saturday morning, on the PA I-83 Business Loop in York County charged twelve people with DUI at the Drunk Driving checkpoint.

April 2010, The chief operating officer of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is facing DUI charges after police in Derry Township, Pa. said he had a blood alcohol level of 0.137 on April 5 when he spun out his car and crashed into a fence. According to court documents, George M. Hatalowich, 44, crashed into the fence owned by Hersheypark, then drove away northbound in the southbound lane of Park Avenue.Police have charged Hatalowich with two counts of driving under the influence, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage and failing to remain in the proper lane. 

March 2010, Shippensburg, Pa. man has been charged with driving under the influence following a one-vehicle crash around 5 Sunday evening that resulted in a passenger in his car being taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center. State police said Travis L. Heckman, 23, was driving his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup west on Mud Level Road in Southampton Township when he lost control on the wet roadway and left the road about 200 yards east of Britton Road, striking five fence posts and a metal gate before coming to rest against a utility pole. Heckman, who was not injured, was charged with DUI, police said. His passenger, Travis E. Burkholder, 24, also of Shippensburg, was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of what police said were minor injuries.

March 2010,  A Lemoyne, Pa. man is charged with DUI and terroristic threats after police said he threatened a state trooper's life following a traffic stop early Sunday morning on Interstate 83 south in Lemoyne. State police said Frank Nunez-Hernandez, 50, was stopped for summary traffic violations just after 2 a.m. between the Highland Park and Lemoyne exits of the highway.Police arrested Nunez-Hernandez on suspicion of DUI following the stop and transported him to Harrisburg Hospital to have blood drawn for testing. As he was being given a ride home, police said, Nunex-Hernandez threatened the life of a state trooper, so he was taken to Cumberland County Prison for arraignment on the terroristic threats and DUI charges

Franklin County, Pa. Man arrested  in stabbing death of Md. woman. Police arrested Jeffrey Miles, 46, of State Line, Pa., following a three-hour standoff on an overpass off Interstate 81 in Antrim Township early Tuesday morning. He is charged with criminal homicide.
